Janice May Penny Tart

Janice May Penny Tart passed away at home, peacefully in her sleep. She was a loving, devoted wife, and mother. She graduated from East Carolina University, Suma Cum Laude, and taught school for 30 years at Vandora Springs Elementary and Rand Road Elementary. She was a member of the Mount Zion Methodist Church of Garner most of her life, where she was married, taught Sunday School, Bible School, and directed many children’s plays. During the summers, Janice and her family worked in their large garden, canning, and freezing.

 

Janice is survived by daughters, Ellen Tart Jensen, Donna Tart Dyer - husband, Allen Dyer; grand-daughters, Laura Luster – husband, Hugh Luster and Carmen Dyer Turnbull – husband Jonathan Turnbull, great-grand children –Makenna Luster, Zachary and Camden Turnbull; and sister, June Penny Evans, as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 65 years, James Rayford Tart; parents, Braxton Joseph Penny, and Lula May Hathaway Penny; sister, Eunice Penny Chappell; brothers – Ray, C.C., Owen, and Allen Penny and their spouses, and her son-in-law, Arthur Jensen.

 

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Arosa Home Health care, In Home Care and Heartland Hospice, for their wonderful care through the last few years of Janice’s life.
